You know who rules
The Angry Video Game Nerd, I mean I love this guy
its a young filmmaker who created the character to amuse his friends, and the videos have taken off. All his videos are so great and he's really come into his own. He has use dthe internet to market himself too and he's able to have so much fun and be so popular.
It all started with just a simple stupid idea
Awesome

Have you ever seen a movie that affected the way you looked at another movie?
Like the role of the character really just enhances or humorizes the role that the actor played in a different movie?
Case in point, American Psycho
I defy you to watch that movie nd then watch Dark Knight and not laugh at everytime Bruce Wayne is acting like a millionaire playboy
So good

You know whats hilarious
I went to a party last night that was mainly males and the Ipod music speaker thing was on full blast, but thats not the funny thin that happened. During the course of the night as everyone got more and more intoxicated, Taylor Swift came on.
Guess who sang all the words
Not me
but damn near every other drunk guy at this party sang this song to each other and to anyone passing by.
I mean sriously, Its hilarious every single time I see it bu drunk guys love singing really lame love songs to each other.
To connect this all to something of relevance- Whoa that media eyy...it even affects us when we're drunk!

UFC
One of the things that's really come into its own in the past few years is the UFC. What started as an underground sensation has turned into a cable powerhouse, with many fighters slowly and slowly becoming more well known.
The man who runs the UFC Dana White can really be credited as a marketing genius of sorts. He allows lesser fighters to be on free live Shows on Cable and air lesser PPVS. By doing that he really creates a universe that is really easy to get into. Especially at college cmaopuses, guys are getting into UFC more and more and its easy to say why. Two guys fighting with very little padding is what happens across campuses every weekend.
Whats everyone elses take on the UFC

Dance Flick
Really?
The newest of those....awful movies is coming out.
Dance Flick, a parody of dance movies
Ok.....I seriously hate these movies and the people who make them, but mainly its the people who see them. I mean, how can you people justify in this poor economic time to spend 10 bucks to go see jokes that weren't even funny 6 months ago when they are first topical
This entry is awful, but Im just....so mad

Captain America
It wasn't until about...My freshman year in college that I really started getting into comics. A friend found a way to download them online and Marvel's Civil War had just ended, so I was able to catch up on the last major comic event and decide which ones I liked. In the course of that reading, I fell in love with Captain America.
Captain America's story is that of a young man who undergoes a radical treatment to try and serve his country. His powers are just a heightened sense of things and speed, and he is truly the ultimate male.
Well Cap's gonna have a movie in the next two years and he's yet to be cast. I looked at a suggestion board and saw some weird suggestions. Lemme give some of my thoughts on potential stars.
Mark Wahlberg- He is my favorite actor and I love Mark, but he's just too edgy. Cap is supposed to be dignified and idealistic but Mark is just too scary an individual.
Josh Duhammel- What has he ever done, I mean his biggest role was in Transformers and he wasn't a robot so I didn't care.
Aaron Eckhart- If Cap was older, absolutly and hell I wouldnt even mind if he was cast but I think he may be too old.
Jensen Ackles- Some dude from Supernatural? Ok....random
Matt Damon- I don't feel like he's big enough
Leonardo Dicaprio- One of my picks, but he'd need to put on lots of muscle
Brat Pitt- Absolutly up there in choices. The man is pretty much the biggest star in the world and the ultimate male in his own way
Daniel Craig- A sentimental favorite among me and my friends. If they were casting older, Daniel Craig mixes stoicism and toughness extremly well. Layer Cake was a great film and he was great in it.
As for my personal pick
Thomas Jane- He looks like Captain America and if the Punisher is any indication then he just dives himself into his roles and really lives it. He has the Cap look and maybe he'll be cast

5 The Kurrgan- Highlander
What a freaking monster is this guy. A giant monster of a man who sets out to ruin the lives of any immortal he sees. He destroys Connors life and kills his mentor and does.....anything basically to just ruin his life. What a manimal
4 Batman- The Batman movies
I had to limit it to one superhero and batman is it. Nobody else is as ruthless and yet cool and collected like Batman. He's totally rugged and brutal and yet the smartest superhero of them all.
3 Mel Gibson in the Patriot
The past is so badass. Hey kill my son, Ima kill you and suceed and while Im at it...Ill WIN FREEDOM FOR THE COLONIES. Get raped England.
2 Rocky from the Rocky Series
he fought Russians, Champions, badasses and old age and never backed down. The embodiment of the never say die attitude. He may not be bright but he's got heart and has inspired me since I was a kid. How can a man who fights Ivan Drago not be a giant badass.
1. William Wallace in Braveheart
I mean, could you come up wit anything better. I mean his last word is Freedom. That is the definition of badass. You mess with his wife and youre life is essentially ruined. Braveheart ftw

Top list
Ok...here's something new....I decided for the rest of my blogs I might just make some lists for the sake of making lists. Figured they'd be interesting at the very least
Ben's top 10 most badass characters in Film, in no particular order
10. Kham in The Protector.
Tony Jaa plays a young man who seeks to finds his family's stolen elephant and in the process breaks more bones then a million Lawrence Taylors versus a million Joe Theisman's. He gets stabbed and no-sells it and proceeds to deliver insane muay thai skills all over the place.
9. Rorshach- Watchmen.
I mean...staring at death ion the face and demanding it before you'd compromise your beliefs is just totally badass. Plus there was the whole scaring a prison full of psychos into submission without even blinking. He's number 9 for making me question ginger kids' true motivations
8. John McLane-Die Hard.
Not a surprise at all, nobody can be cut to shit by glass and still deliver amazing quips like John McLane. The scene where he outsmart Alan Rickman by asking if he's fucking stupid Hans is just action movie greatness.
7. Chev Chelios in Crank.
You just find out you're going to die in like an hour as a result of being poisoned by a rival. So whatd you do...if youre Chev Chelios then you defy all logic and proceed to kill anyone remotly responsible for your situation. Nobody makes running full speed with a boner quite as badass as Chev.
6. Dignam- The Departed
Clearly when they cast Mark Wahlberg in the role, they told him just to be the world's biggest prick. Another person who just is in your face with no mercy is Dignam in this classic film. Wahlberg steals every scene he's in and his final appearance in the film left be screaming in delight
5. Rambo in Rambo
Nothing needs to be said here.
I'll deliver the rest of my top 5 tomorrow

Stealing movies
The best part of loving cheesy action movies is the villians?
Why?
Because they are always legitimate actors who get to play total assholes and steal films. Their performances are legendary and so fun to watch. Look at these examples
John Lithgow in Cliffhanger
Lance Henriksen in Hard Target
Powers Boothe in Sudden Death
and my personal favorite...Raul Julia in Streetfighter
OH MY GOD, he is awesome as the manical M Bison and a legitimate source of greatness in this film, playing his role to perfection. Probabl my favorite seem comes from an exchange with Chun Li
Chun Li: My father saved his village at the cost of his own life. You had him shot as you ran away. A hero at a thousand paces!
Bison: I'm sorry... I don't remember any of it.
Chun Li: You don't remember?
Bison: For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me... it was Tuesday.
So Evil and Badass, and..excuse me...I'm gonna go watch that movie now that I got on a 4 movie Van Damme pack for 10 dollars

Tom Cruise
I love Tom Cruise
and I hate anyone who denies his abilities. I swear to god I am constantly arguing with people over his talent and it really infuriates me. It's a case of people letting the hype get to their head as the man is a fine actor and been in so many great films. People always say he's the same character in every movie.
Not True
if he was the same character in Risky Business as he was in Last Samurai, then the second movie would be even more amazing then it already is
Let's look at some of Tom's Accomplishments
One of the greatest comedic performances of the decade in Tropic Thunder
Golden Globe nominated and all around legendary performance in Risky Business
Golden Globe winning role in Born on the Fourth of July
Golden GLobe nominated role in A Few Good Men
Awesome performance in Interview with a Vampire
Memorable Performance in Top GUn
Academy Award nominated role in Jerry McGuire
Golden Globe nominated role and Academy Award nominated role in Magnolia
Goldgen Globe nominated role in Last Samurai
Astonishing performance in Collateral
As well as personal favorites of mine such as Legend, Mission Impossible, The Outsiders, and more
but yeah
He can't act at alll

Movie endings...SPOILERZZZ
Have you ever seen a movie and at the end of it you just felt like you were punched in the stomach?
I mean with a lot of movies....the endings can just make you freak out. I remember watching the Departed and that last 10 minutes had be in just a roller coaster of emotions
I jumped out of my seat at Friday the 13ths end
and I remember just being so pumped at Braveheart's ending of total badassery
But American History X
That movie kills me everytime. After that movie ends and the credits roll...I wanna like...a. beat up skinheads and b. just like curl up into a small ball and die. I mean the characters come so far in the movie and it all ends up being nothing. There are very few thing you can take away from that movie as a happy ending.
Just like a big old left hook into my intestines, jeez

The Surrogates
It's always great to find something you had never heard of before, and this is the case with the comic book The Surrogates
It's a fascinating tale about a world where people creates dopplegangers that lives their lives for them. When someone starts killing dopplegangers, a cop must begin to leave his home in order to find the killer.
It's such a fascinating idea for a story and the comic book was full of twists and turns. It was only 5 issues and so well put together. It's actually being made into a film starring Bruce Willis and Im nothing but excited.
I'd recommend people try their best to find it as it is just terrific

Chris Crocker
So...I love the internet.
Like...if it was a woman, I'd marry it or at least attempt to pick it up at a bar, but like most couples me and the internet have disagreements.
Chris Crocker is probably known to most of you as the "Leave britney alone guy"but I remember a time when a friend of mine showed me his videos.
He puts the awful and waffle
Like seriously, it makes me mad that someone opened the pandora box of internet and let him out. He's just horribily obnoxious and clearly searching for attention. It makes me so mad that hes more popular then a lot of people on that website. People like Derrick Comedy and Barats and bereta are decently known, while this moron is like...super famous
Internet and I are sleeping in seperate beds for a while

The Wrestler/crying in movies
So I saw The Wrestler for the second time last night and jeez....that movie just takes the wind out of me.Seeing that movie made me remember why I tend to only see action movies and comedies in theaters, because that movie just left me miserable. Not in a ,that was a ripoff sense but in an emotionally crippled by the movie sense. My friend Stephanie was crying throughout the entire thing and my friend Brendan even shed a few and even though I felt it...I could no cry.
I can't cry at movies, and believe me I've tried. Me and my friends have tried to cry at a lot of movies and have succeeded. One cries during most football movies and another cried to the Tony Jaa movie the Protector, but me...I've only come like...watery eyes close twice.
The movies that I almost cried at were Cool Runnings and Sesame Street: Follow that Bird
This wasn't like...10 years ago this happened, it was months ago.
I can't really fathom why, but both of the endings to that movie made me just get watery eyes. I think I attirbuted the Sesame Street one to memories of my childhood, but Cool Runnings I guess was just too damn inspirational.

All your pods are cast
The idea of a podcast is so fascinating to me.
I mean, I understand the technical aspect and stuff, but its the power of it to reach out to people that is enticing to me. I currently do a wrestling podcast with some friends of mine and we've had a small but steady base of listeners, which is really cool in itself. The fact that people tune in every week to listen to us is really rad.
Well the thing I'm most excited is that in the next two weeks we are going to have a wrestler on the show.
Claudio Castangoli, is a Swiss wrestler who has wrestled all over the world and was briefly signed by the WWE before he was released due to budget setback. It's so cool to me that he is taking time out of his day to join us on the show and discuss his career with us. The power of the podcast is really something fascinating.

Oh and Bjorn....just cuz it's a shill doesn't mean I shouldn't get points for it

Who watches the watchmen?, me I guess
One of the films I've been looking forward to the most since I first saw the trailer last July has been The Watchmen. I was a fan of the graphic novel and really hopeful that the film would be great. I personally loved the movie, but as with most work...it seems like a lot of people hate it.
I tend to enjoy most movies I watch, not all on the same level of course, but I am a fan of movies first. From Hong Kong action to American indie, if a movie appeals to me in a way enough for me to watch it then I probably will end up liking it.
The thing with Watchmen is that I'm convinced people wouldn't like it no matter what. It was directed by the guy who directed 300, which was a major strike.People hated 300 due to the stylization of it which I loved. I tended to think that the reason Zach Snyder did those things was well, because he could. It looked phenomenal and like a comic book which was what made it unique.
Another issue is that people were such fans of the graphic novel, which was brilliant, that no matter what it wouldn't be as good to them. Snyder did a good job of trying to translate from book to film and a lot of sequences are taken directly from the novel.
Also, theres the fact it's the internet and everyone hates everything
Yeah...I'll go with the last one

Zach and Miri and disappointments
It's always disheartening when you find out that a movie you enjoyed greatly, failed to perform at the box office and so is the case with Zach and Miri make a Porno. I found the film to be hilarious, with some great and surprising moments that made it fun. I love Kevin Smith movies, but even I was surprised at how well his non-regulars did in his little universe.
That being said, it was kind of sad to hear the movie made only about 30 million something at the box office. Being 20 years old and from the norteast, I guess I take for granted how open minded me and my friends are to stuff. Things like that mean almost nothing to use and a chance to see on screen nudity isn't a big a deal to us as it is to other people. I ponder why the movie did so poorly and I gues the whole porno aspect is the only one that makes sense.
Which is a total shame seeing as the movie is hilarious, and I will forever follow the legend of the Dutch Rudder

It's always cool to get appreciated for something when you work really hard on it. I figured this story is really unique so I'd share it all with you.
I like to combine my love of wrestling and editing and make music videos. Ive done it to hype wrestlers, fueds, and just for kicks really. The world of myspace has made it really easy to send videos to the stars who I base them on. Usually I get a 'Wow that was awesome" or a "great Job", but in the past couple months I received one that really made me feel like the man essentially.
It was a video I did for a wrestler named El Generico, I sent it to him in like July but he responded in October with these words
Hola amigo,
Forgive the extremely late reply.
I wanted to thank you for the video, I have seen many fan videos on youtube, but yours is my favorite. I am sad to see it no longer works on youtube :(
Id like to ask you if its possible to maybe send me a link to where I can download it in a higher quality? To be honest with you I liked it so much that I would like to use it as a video resumee to send to a promoter! The higher the quality the better. Let me know if this is okay with you and at all possible and thanks again for your hard work in this video and continued support.
So rad

Whatever happened to the action movie?
I mean really, when did everyone decide that movies had to be serious in order to be enjoyable.
It seems like everyday I meet people who just despise the movies I live, especially the film Crank.Crank is a ridiculous action movie about a man injected with a poison that can only be combated with adrenaline. The movie is just an hour and a half of pretty much non-stop action and people despise it
"Its stupid"
"That would never happen"
Who cares?
I mean, I didn't go to see Crank to go see Jason Statham giving elaborate monologues on the state of Darfur. I went to see people die and stuff get blown up. Seriously, it's just a ridiculously rad movie which serves it's purpose to entertain.
Is that so wrong?

Im kind of ridiculous
Media has totally seeped into my life.
At least, that's what I realized today as I was going through the day. Let me give you the brief overview of all the media that seeped into my life
Constantly singing "Im on a boat" by SNL stars The Lonely Island
Bringing up Rocky 4 in a regular conversation
Wearing my Backstreet Shirt
Making American Psycho references
Making Christian Bale references
Singing a David hasslehoff song in a popular internet meme
Just to name a few
I'm constantly quoting and referencing other movies and television shows and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Shaffer are geniuses.
It's that simple
I dont' know if any comedy team has ever made me laugh as hard as the dudes from The Lonely Island.
Their latest video, I'm on a Boat has been tearing up the internets and Ive found myself watching it well into double digit figures.
Its facsinating that this three went from a moderatly known team of internet filmmakers to releasing an album and creating movies.
The Internet rocks

They say that a hero can save us
I feel as though this blog is almost becoming my own personal confessions of a not so dangerous mind.
Best part of that is I wasn't think of Sam Rockwell when I said it, but Dangerous Minds with Michelle Pffifer which lead to the classic song Gangsta's Paradise. Yeah...I owned that cassette and I listened to that song
over
and over
and over
Anyways, back to the business at hand. I don't know if this will even get my points but I kinda feel like talking about it. Reading about binary oppossitions in the Chapter 2 readings led me to ponder about villians and heroes and trying to think of the best dichotomy of the two.
I've tried to thing of the best examples of a hero and villian in an opposite and rad manner, The answer I came up with for my personal favorite in opposites
Hans Gruber versus John McClane.
I mean look at the epic struggle you have here.
Hans Gruber is a European, highly intelligent cool and calm terrorist whos planned to great detail his attempt to leave the plaza as a very rich man
Then theres John McClane, a two time loser thrust into a situation he never expected. I mean seriously, he doesn't even wear shoes in it and he's still the man. He's completly improvising and winging it and in the end......he is able to send hans flying to his death
I mean...the visual of Hans looking all spiffy in his nice suit standing next to a brusied and battered John McClane wearing a tanktop really sums up the whole idea.
God Bless America.

So I'm like uber nerd
I'm a pro wrestling fan.
There I said it, all you cute girls can leave now. I'll wait
Ok there, that being said I'm a wrestling fan and have been for as long as I can remember. My earliest memories all involve WWF action and men like the Ultimate Warrior, Papa Shango, and the Bushwhackers to name a few.
So Imagine my surprise when I saw analogies in the film Outfoxed as I did with the current affair of professional wrestling.
The owner of the WWE Vince McMahon is a marketing genius. Wrestlers like Hulk Hogan and Steve Austin catched the public eye and held the WWE on top of the ratings for periods of time. The interesting thing is Vince mcMahon hates wrestling
He hates the idea of professional wrestling.
To him, it is sports entertainment. Sports Entertainment was a term coined by him as a way to appeal to a mass audience. With professional wrestling comes the usual connontations of redneck hillbillies yelling at two muscleheads rolling around in the ring
He created a way to spin professional wrestling into a whole different avenue. Sports Entertainment doesn't carry such a stigma and it seems to have worked in some strange way.
I mean...potential Oscar winner Mickey Rourke is scheduled for a match at Wrestlemania.
Who can argue with that
