They say that a hero can save us

I feel as though this blog is almost becoming my own personal confessions of a not so dangerous mind.

Best part of that is I wasn't think of Sam Rockwell when I said it, but Dangerous Minds with Michelle Pffifer which lead to the classic song Gangsta's Paradise. Yeah...I owned that cassette and I listened to that song
over
and over
and over

Anyways, back to the business at hand. I don't know if this will even get my points but I kinda feel like talking about it. Reading about binary oppossitions in the Chapter 2 readings led me to ponder about villians and heroes and trying to think of the best dichotomy of the two.

I've tried to thing of the best examples of a hero and villian in an opposite and rad manner, The answer I came up with for my personal favorite in opposites

Hans Gruber versus John McClane.

I mean look at the epic struggle you have here.

Hans Gruber is a European, highly intelligent cool and calm terrorist whos planned to great detail his attempt to leave the plaza as a very rich man

Then theres John McClane, a two time loser thrust into a situation he never expected. I mean seriously, he doesn't even wear shoes in it and he's still the man. He's completly improvising and winging it and in the end......he is able to send hans flying to his death

I mean...the visual of Hans looking all spiffy in his nice suit standing next to a brusied and battered John McClane wearing a tanktop really sums up the whole idea.

God Bless America.

  1. It's refreshing to hear someone sing the praises of John McClane. Die Hard is one of the most solid action movies ever made. It never gets old watching it. Bruce Willis is clearly one of the most naturally bad-ass people to every live while Rickman pulls of being a believeable bad-guy. Arnold and Stallone get all the action accolades but it is Willis is goes about his business a bit more under the radar but certainly on par with those dudes.
